About

Wypasek Data Science, Inc. (WDataSci)

MISSION

WDataSci’s mission is to provide our customers with the tangible benefits that come from the data science of consumer asset finance.  This includes a full spectrum of analytics throughout a deal or project life cycle and leaving our customers better prepared for the next.  To be better prepared, we must also give back to our communities, both within the areas of finance and data science and through training and mentoring new talent.

ABOUT

WDataSci started with the opportunity to leverage over 20 years of experience of applying the mathematical sciences to solve problems in asset backed finance (ABS).  Consumer ABS, in particular, has always been a “big data” problem involving complex data operations, automated learning techniques, and financial mathematics long before the topics became in-vogue research areas.  For deal oriented investors, innovation has to produce.  Best practices are named “best practices” both because they are actively used and have a proven track record.  However, best practices by their nature must seek improvement through developing new technology with the review, refinement, and preparation for the next.

Christian Wypasek, PhD

Christian started the firm in 2018 after nine years with Centerbridge Partners, LP (CBP), parting as friend of the firm and for opportunities to develop new IP and mentor new talent. He was the primary data science lead in the NYC office on many consumer finance deals, ABS, and projects including: autos, credit cards, mortgages (non-agency, seconds, etc), consumer loans (hypothecated, secured, and unsecured), and others. Prior to CBP, he worked in Merrill Lynch’s global asset backed finance non-residential group for three years, Wachovia/FirstUnion’s Treasury and Capital Markets for seven years, and GE Capital Mortgage Corp for two years. Throughout his career, he has effectively handled all data science aspects of Consumer ABS investing, from business need identification, to model design, data engineering, modeling (statistical, cash-flow, and valuation), implementation, and delivery.
